Autumn 1 - The Circus is in Town
Autumn 1
The Circus
Come and join us for a fantastic learning journey about the circus!
We will be learning about the wonderful world of entertainers such as; trapeze artists, ringmasters, acrobats and clowns and what their lives were like at the Circus.
We will be looking at the history of the circus where and how it all began in Rome with Circus Maximus and know why it was a significant place. We will look through the ages of Philip Astley and finally onto the modern day circus.
We will be debating whether we think animals should be a part of the circus or not, using our oracy skills working in teams.
In PE children will enjoy circus activities through gymnastics and dance such as; diablo tricks, juggling and scarf dancing, and perform at a Circus show!
In art, we will be studying Kandindsky and recreating one of his paintings as a collaborative piece of art. The children will learn about primary and secondary colours and mixing paints to inspire their own versions.
The children will also have the opportunity to delve into Circus themed books during Shared Reading and Literacy lessons too, including, Nell and the Circus of dreams and Leon and the place between. Children will use their imagination to write wonderful descriptions.
In RE this half term children will look at who Muslims are and what they believe.
If you have any artefacts or amazing books linked to our topic please share with the class.
